Dear Women Political Leaders, dear friends,

2018 sees landmark developments of the Women Political Leaders Global Forum: We are getting very close to the WPL Summit 2018 in Vilnius (Lithuania) on 6-8 June! It is the most significant gathering of leading women politicians from all continents, and includes current and former women Presidents and Prime Ministers, Ministers, Parliamentarians and other political leaders. The WPL Summit resides under the patronage of Her Excellency President Dalia Grybauskaite of Lithuania. In 2018, Lithuania celebrates 100 years of independence and 100 years of women's voting rights – a landmark political anniversary. The WPL Summit theme in 2018 is consequently: “It’s about time! 100 reasons to act” In November, WPL is proud to launch the Women Leaders Global Forum, the Davos of women – Iceland style. It is co-hosted by WPL, the Government and Parliament of Iceland, which is the global champion of gender equality. This forum is the first of its kind and will be the world’s most relevant women’s conference, the platform for people who advance society. Focusing on activities in Africa, the WPL Africa Office in Rwanda was launched in April. Based in Rwanda, the global champion of women in politics, it will coordinate initiatives for all African regions. Stay put for more to come!

President‘s post

By Dalia Grybauskaitė, the President of the Republic of Lithuania and Chair of the Council of Women World Leaders:

‘This year Lithuania celebrates two centenaries: a hundred years of the Independence and a hundred years of the suffrage right for Lithuanian women. Both occasions highlight courage and determination to follow a dream and make it a reality.

Today we enjoy the benefits of those big dreams. Yet we have a responsibility to take them even further and dream bigger. IT’S ABOUT TIME. WE HAVE 100 REASONS TO ACT. It is easier to do it with those who are likeminded.

It is a big honor and joy to welcome more than two hundred women and men from all over the world in Vilnius. WPL Summit 2018 provides excellent opportunities to exchange ideas, experiences and aspirations. And Lithuania, a living proof of a dream coming true, is the perfect place for inspiration.’
